Four Corners

Established in 2014, the Four Corners garden sits at the intersection of Route 119 and Route 225. Once an overgrown traffic medium, the location is now a riot of color from spring through fall.

With a big assist from the Groton Highway Department,  the grass was replaced with a hefty twelve inches of soil, and the plot was created. The garden consists of a mix of bulbs, daylilies, coneflowers, junipers, grasses, iris, and sedums. Over the years, more plants and bulbs have been added as needed. Ongoing work includes keeping the grass mowed around the plot and dealing with some persistent plant-damaging voles.

These gardens not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area, but also help to calm traffic by creating a visually pleasing environment that encourages drivers to slow down and appreciate their surroundings. Plot Plan for Plants-4 Corners Traffic Island copy.jpeg

"Like a chain letter, I will take a plant from this garden to the next and from the next garden to the one after that, and so on, until someday I am an old woman nurturing along a patchwork quilt of a garden, with cuttings and scraps from every garden I tended before."
